About Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering
Since 1990, the year of its establishment, the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering has been combining the tradition of technical academic education in Brașov with the trends imposed by sustainable development in the field of metallic, ceramic and composite materials.
The future of industrial development is directly related to research and identification of new materials with high-performance properties. These materials must support the goal of sustainable development, given that natural resources are finite, traditional ways of producing energy must be changed in the coming decades, and nature and the environment send signals to industrialized companies about the consequences that future generations will have to face if current polluting technologies are not fundamentally changed.
The Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering trains specialists who will be able to manage the complex problems of the present as well as the much challenging ones of the future. The teaching staff are grouped in research centres and students are educated in the direction of globally recognized development directions:
- identification and development of new, high-performance, reliable and cheap materials, adapted to various branches of industries: space, aeronautics, car manufacturers, consumer goods, technologies and information transport, etc.
- the development of new high-performance materials production technologies, which make the most of the raw materials and resources existing in the country;
- the development of recycling technologies that use as raw materials industrial or household waste and waste produced on an increasingly large scale by developed companies;
- new technologies to replace the current energy-consuming processes;
- clean technologies that contribute to the rebalancing of ecosystems and not to their destruction.
